What is your story?
Your story?
I have never had a “near death” experience; however, in my early 20’s I had a “near miss,” or wake-up call. While in graduate school, I became extremely ill. Barely conscious, I entered the emergency room of the hospital. The attending physician called me the walking miracle the next day and for years after. I came to know God more intimately as He walked along beside me, healing and nurturing me during this medical crisis like none before in my young life. Yet, God’s story had begun long before. My eyes and heart now opened up to His love. My life up until this point was all about achieving and doing what is good. This medical crisis was a wake-up call to look to Him first and above all else. As God gave me a new perspective on life, He enabled me to earn this graduate degree and a few years later, another graduate degree. His intervention turned me toward Him and His plan for my life. Does any part of my story sound familiar to you?
Another wake-up call came twenty years later. A member of my family of origin became ill, and there were no acceptable options. The failure of not being able to help a close sibling and confidante was more than I could bear. It brought me to the end of myself, and a deep depression set in. But God in His great mercy showed up again to hold me and to draw me close, to teach me the truth in His word, and to move me toward a deeper relationship with Him. Are there parts of your story where you had no solution?
In a new phase of life with my husband and grown children, I am in another wake-up call of sorts. God’s call daily is for me to know Him more. As God’s children, there is always so much more for you and for me. He writes the stories in our lives. Allow Him to wake you up to your life and your story with Him as the author and giver of extravagant love in Jesus Christ. God is calling you to your life, one of purpose and meaning. So, may I ask, “What is your story?”
